I've had a lot of friends of mine complaining about the performance of their iPhone 3G phones since the iOS 4 update. Well, check this out. Apparently it can take the edge off.

You can also overclock your iPhone 3G, as the processor is purposely underclocked in the 3G to preserve battery life, and clocking it to a normal speed would push it into the speed of the 3GS (which runs iOS 4 well), but I haven't found a great guide for that yet.
